A 45 year old patient is driver by occupation came with chief complaints of fever, chill, pedal edema and generalised edema

Chief complaints
Fever, chills , pedal edema and generalised edema 

History of present illness:


Patient was apparently asymptomatic 2 years back and then developed  bilateral back pain which is insidious in onset. Consulted an orthopedician and was diagnosed with renal failure through x-ray. He was put on medication. (Unknown)

He was on dialysis from 7 months during which he developed generalised edema and was diagnosed with anemia, had 3/4 blood transfusions.



Personal history:


Diet : mixed 

Appetite : normal

Bowel and bladder:  normal

Sleep: not adequate 

Addictions: Alcohol and smoking 



Family history:

Not significant 


General examination 


The examination was conducted at a well lit and well ventilated room. The patient was conscious, cooperative and coherent. 


Moderately built 

Pallor- present 

Icterus - no

Cyanosis - no

Clubbing- no

Pedal edema - yes (pitting type)
